ISELT Course

Beginner
Target	Limited exposure to English. Usage and recognition of common words.
Credit	4 BC High School credits (ESL Beginner)*
Lower Intermediate
Target	Simple usage of everyday phrases. Basic understanding of sentence structure. Understanding of simple instructions and messages.
Credit	4 BC High School credits (ESL Intro 10)*
Upper Intermediate
Target	Understanding of everyday conversations. Ability to communicate on familiar topics. Ability to read and write with a limited range of vocabulary.
Credit	4 BC High School credits (ESL 10)*
Advanced
Target	Clear expression of ideas in English. Comprehension of English text. Mastering grammar thoroughly. Ability to write complete text.
Credit	4 BC High School credits (ESL11)*
Expert
Target	Good command of English vocabulary. Ability to read complicated articles. Ability to write well with few grammatical errors. Ability to communicate in English fluently.
Credit	4 BC High School credits (ESL12)*

* credit towards BC graduation is conditional upon a student’s acceptance into an approved BC High School International Program.
